General Assembly Meeting Highlights 2-6-10

NDAHPERD Meeting Highlights

General Assembly

February 6, 2010

Central District Convention

Fargo, ND

This was an informal prior to honoring the 2009 award winners.

v             Retiring Executive Director, Donna Terbizan, gave her closing remarks and expressed her thanks to all.

v   Discussion was held in regard to registration for membership being totally on-line through the web site or doing both on-line and by mail.  The group consensus was to go with only on-line registration.  Notice for renewal would be done with a reminder through email.

v   President Doppler reviewed the criteria for the NDAHPERD Grant and encouraged those members present to apply.

v             Doppler announced that the State Conference would be held on October 20-21.  Bismarck will be the location with the exact site yet to be determined.

v   Members present were asked to consider submitting their own names for positions on the NDAHPERD board or to seek out other members and encourage them to run for office.

v   Barb Bjorum has written a new HIV/Aids K-5 curriculum/lessons.  She is looking for teachers interested in teaching it and trying it out for her.  She may be contacted at Valley City Public Schools.

v   Members were encouraged to check out the new NDAHPERD web site and give any feedback they might have to the board.  After a brief discussion, the group felt they preferred to continue with a printed newsletter rather than doing one on-line.

v   Terry Eckmann has placed a power point on the web site with talking points that members may use for promoting physical education.

v   Contact information for our legislators was distributed in order that members might encourage their support for the PEP Grant.  The funding for it is in some jeopardy at the moment.

v   There will be another P.E. Day at the legislature in January of 2011.  Members were asked to submit any ideas they had for this advocacy event and to help if they could.

v   Brad Strand was introduced as the in-coming Executive Director for NDAHPERD.
