Message from the President

I was lucky enough to be able to attend and present at both fall workshops.  The Minot workshop was held September 19 and the Dickinson workshop was held September 28.  These workshops offered some great sessions on technology, archery, tennis, rubber chicken games, BOSU ball, GeoFit, Ab workouts, Geocaching, line dances, Elementary game activities, water activities, and SPARK.  I would like to give a BIG shout out and “high five” to Sarah Beckedahl and Deb Conlon for their hard work and preparation.  Once again I think our NDAHPERD members were presented with lots of useable instructional information to take back to their schools and use with their students.

If you didn’t get to go to the fall workshops you might consider attending the Central District conference held in Fargo, February 4-6, 2010.  The committee has been working hard to put together a great conference and having sessions that “Focus Energy to Enhance Teaching-F.E.E.T.”  NDAHPERD members can attend this year’s Central District conference without being a National member as long as they are NDAHPERD members.  So get out and recruit a new member and get them to Central District.  Also, in the planning process is the NDAHPERD state conference to be held next fall in Bismarck, ND.  If you would like to submit a presentation, the proposal form will be located on the NDAHPERD website in January and it will also be available at Central District.

Not only are the workshops and conferences a good way to develop professionally but remember that NDAHPERD offers our members an opportunity to earn grant money to buy special equipment and /or incorporate a special project at their school.  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2010.  The grant application form is included in the newsletter and also on the NDAHPERD website.

Our new NDAHPERD website was created by Human Kinetics and is now up and running.  To connect to the webpage go to www.ndahperd.com.  Please visit the website and let me know if you have any thoughts or recommendations.  On the website, Terry Eckmann has a great section on the “Ten WIFM’s (What’s in it for me?) Good Reasons to Join Your Professional Organization at the State and National Level”.  NDAHPERD needs to join forces with AAHPERD to help support funding for Physical Education and Health legislation.  As professionals we need to promote Physical Education and Health 24/7.  We need to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.  So as the New Year approaches make a resolution to work professionally on promoting, networking and recruiting!
