Message from NDAHPERD President Rachel Krug Johnson

President’s Message

Rachel Krug Johnson

Greetings from the New NDAHPERD President

I would like to start by thanking Vicky Bender for her outstanding work over the last year as president of NDAHPERD. She has promoted the Let’s Move in Schools campaign and con- tinued to strive for the best physical education classes for our students.  She is an excellent motivator not only to her students but also to board members and the physical education community.

My name is Rachel Johnson Krug; I will be serving you in the next year as the president of NDAHPERD. I am looking forward to meeting more of the educators in our state and am willing to help out in any way that I can to make your job easier. I am excited to have this opportunity to be involved with such a great organization. I currently work for the University of Mary and love working with students to become the best

physical education teachers.

I had the opportunity to represent NDAHPERD last year in February when I went to Washington, DC, and visited with the legislative representative aides. This was an awesome event and they were very willing to listen and learn about physical education. Their take-home message was to start in the state with changing legislation, and if more states follow suit then it will become nation- ally recognized. So to look at making physical education a core subject would be fantastic for the state of North Dakota to pursue.

We also need to continue our push for Let’s Move in Schools that Vicky started last year. University of Mary students have been coordinating some work through our local elementary schools to help with this push, but we need to work on this statewide. Please share your stories, ideas, and suggestions. We are always looking for more articles for the newsletter, so feel free to submit them for publication. If you are interested in serving as a member on our board, please send me your contact information and I will get your name on our next ballot.
